Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan Wiring

Is there an issue with your Harbor Breeze ceiling fan? You might be dealing with any of these situations:

• You are going through Harbor Breeze fan installation and need assistance with wiring as well as installation
• You want to repair a fan that has giving you a tough time, and you think there is a wiring problem
• You want to take down a ceiling fan
• The fan is no longer working properly due to a recent power surge (this can be or cannot be a wiring issue)

If you are going to open the fan because of a wiring problem, our suggestion is to get the multi meter ready. A multi meter is helpful to locate the break in the circuit.

Out of the fan box, you’ll come across the following wires

• A hot wire will be there, which is usually black. Hot means that the current is going through it.
• A white wire may be a neutral one
• A ground wire can be black, brown, or copper
• A switched-hot that can be red.

What do the wiring colors mean?

Here is a quick explanation of Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan Wiring. When there is an indication of “hot,” this means that this is a line coming in from the house that is “live.” It indicates that the current goes through it – it can electrocute you. A ground wire is without a charge but if you end up with the ground wire by mistake or complete the circuit, you can still get hurt so you have to be cautious about it. Our recommendation is to switch off the electricity from the mains or fuse panel before getting started.

The wires going through the box in the ceiling should be same, matching with the two green wires, and ground wires of the fan need to be spliced to the bare ground wire.
Blue wires can be used if you use a light in future.

Use the wire nuts to cop both leads if not using these ends.

The black wire of the fan should be connected to the red from the ceiling. Connect the blue wire on the fan to the black wire from the ceiling. If the black is not working, try to make a connection between black and red.

Join the green to green, white to white.

From the ceiling box, here is a color representation to learn about them:

Hot wire –  black
Neutral wire –  white
Ground wire –  copper
Switched-hot –  red

A neutral white will be on the fan, hot lead for the motor, blue and black for the light (not available now).
